FROM THE FUTURE
Ever wanted to recreate the fights from all 6 Jurassic films? Despite releasing in 1997 for the original PlayStation, the dinosaurs that are featured in this below sup-par fighting game has dinosaurs that will later show up in the Jurassic films. You can recreate the fight between the Spinosaurus and the T-Rex four years before the release of Jurassic Park III, or you can recreate the fights between the T-Rex and Giganotosaurus 24 years before the release of Jurassic World: Dominion. Mix that with original music by Michael Giacchino, who also went on to write the music for the Jurassic World trilogy, and you have a game that foreshadows events of the films despite being a completely forgotten game.
TO THE PAST
And it's forgotten for a reason. It's not a good game. The controls are wonky at best and the dinosaurs doesn't feel smooth to play at all. There are a handful of playable dinosaurs to play as, but almost half of them is unlocked. Also unlocked are some of the gameplay modes. I know they are there to give more gameplay, but these are basic gameplay modes that pretty much all fighting games have without having to unlock them. While there is original music, there is not single note from either the soundtracks to Jurassic Park or The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The only thing that sticks to the Jurassic Park franchise is some of the areas which it's based off of Jurassic Park, Site B and San Diego. The dinosaurs also sound like they do in the film with the new dinosaurs given their own sound, which seems like they didn't use in the films since Warpath Spinosaurus sounds nothing like the Spino that was in Jurassic Park III.
NOT EVEN A NIBBLE
As a fighting game, the system is broken. You do have your basic attacks and your bite attack, but directing them feels like moving a tank. Your biting move can be pretty cool if you use it in the right way, but once you see that juggling is a thing, it becomes apparent that this game is fundamentally flawed. Now matter how hard I try, I couldn't get a juggle going. The only good thing about the game play is that people and smaller dinosaurs find themselves in the middle of the fight and you can eat them for a slight health pick up. Unfortunately, much like the fighting itself, eating a human is harder said than done.
I am a MASSIVE Jurassic Park fan and I always try to at least try out all the Jurassic Park games and Warpath: Jurassic Park is so forgettable that I keep forgetting that there is a boring dull Jurassic Park fighting game. There are worse Jurassic Park games out there, but there are also WAY better Jurassic Park games out there. This is boring. In film form, all 6 films has a cool fighting scenes between dinosaurs. In Warpath: Jurassic Park, not so much.
